INTERNATIONAL TOPOLOGICAL CONFERENCE,
DEDICATED TO P.S.ALEXANDROFF'S 100TH BIRTHDAY

Academician Pavel Sergeevich Alexandroff (1896-1982) was the creator of the Moscow topological school. His fundamental works have contributed to the very origin of General Topology, and his scientific ideas have an immortal influence on modern mathematics. The present Conference continues the series of annual topological meetings in honor of P.S.Alexandroff which take place since 1983 at the end of May at Moscow State University and are attended by topologists from the (former) Soviet Union region (i.e. Russia and other Commonwealth countries).

SCHEDULE

The Conference sessions will take place at the Department of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University, the Main Building of MSU at Vorobyovy Gory. On Monday morning (May 27) there will be a plenary meeting with three invited lectures (60 min. each). Monday afternoon and whole days of Tuesday, Thursday and Friday will be devoted to special meetings on the following areas:

  1. GENERAL AND GEOMETRIC TOPOLOGY
  2. ALGEBRAIC TOPOLOGY
  3. APPLICATIONS OF TOPOLOGY AND GEOMETRY

Tuesday, Thursday and Friday working days will be started with a semiplenary lecture (60 min.) delivered for all participants. The schedule of special meetings will include expository lectures (45 min.), contributed talks (30 min.) and brief communications (20 min.).

On Wednesday, May 29, a full-day excursion is planned to the memorial places of P.S.Alexandroff (grave monument, the former summer residence in Komarovka, native town of Bogorodsk --- presently Noginsk) with a celebration dinner.

ABSTRACTS

Participants should submit their abstracts to the Organizing Committee not later than May 1, 1996. The length should not exceed two pages if typewritten in double spacing. Sending TeX files (in any standard macro package) by E-mail is strongly encouraged.

A copy of abstracts will be given to every participant at the beginning of the Conference. Furthermore, all abstracts submitted up to-day are placed in WWW at the URL

ACCOMMODATION AND MEALS

The Organizing Committee can offer accommodation in the MSU Hotel Complex which is located in the Main Building of MSU. This Hotel has single rooms with a phone and optional TV, shower, WC and refrigerator being shared by two rooms. Such rooms will be charged at about 100000 Russian roubles (20 U.S. dollars) per night. This accommodation will be available from May 26 till June 2. Payment should be made in cash in roubles not later than Monday, May 27.

If you prefer not to stay in the MSU Hotel, then you can request from us an information about appropriate Moscow city hotels. Prices there vary from 45 to 100 U.S. dollars per night.

Lunches on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (Conference working days) will be served in the restaurant within the Main Building. Breakfasts and dinners can also be got in local buffets and canteens, some of them are of self-service type. Wednesday's lunch will be provided during the excursion. Full day meals will cost about 30000-50000 Russian roubles (7-12 U.S. dollars).
